SAN FRANCISCO MIME TROUPE, political satire at its best, returns to the Sebastiani Theatre, on Thursday, September 2, at 7:00 p.m., with a brand new play – Posibilidad or Death of the Worker. Small towns and big cities have been cheering the work of the San Francisco Mime Troupe for nearly five decades. Whatever happens, the San Francisco Mime Troupe will continue to hold up a mirror to our society and ask the sharp questions.

“Anyone concerned about the state of global politics and about the state of political humor – should listen to the San Francisco Mime Troupe’s message.” – New York Times

“Part savagely acute political satire part living newspaper, and all broad, tuneful, and timely musical comedy.” – San Francisco Chronicle

Anywhere, USA, another U.S. factory is closing its doors, and on the final day of work, one tired employee sits down on the job. “Oh, no, a worker sit-in, an occupation!” thinks the hapless Boss. Actually the tired employee’s just gone into labor – no pun intended – but before anyone can stop to think twice, the work force IS occupying the factory. Will these accidental organizers make the most of their plight? Can they successfully save their jobs without being tainted by – shudder – politics? And what can they learn from Mexican telenovelas and the workers of Argentina? Stay tuned to see what is possible!

This modern song and tango about politics in the workplace was written by Michael Gene Sullivan with music and lyric by Pat Moran and additional dialogue contributed by Ellen Callas. Wilma Bonet directs the fabulous cast which includes Rotimi Agbabiaka, Velina Brown, Lisa Nori-Garcia, Maggie Mason, Brian Rivera, and Michael Gene Sullivan. Since 1970, the San Francisco Mime Troupe has operated as an artist-governed collective, comprised of actors, musicians, writers, composers, directors, designers and technicians who create shows and make policy as well as approve tour plans, grant sources, expenditures and special projects.

The San Francisco Mime Troupe creates and produces socially relevant theater of the highest professional quality. Founded by R. G. Davis, the company became the San Francisco Mime Troupe in 1961. The Troupe won its first OBIE AWARD in 1968 for "uniting theater and revolution and grooving in the park." Since then, two more OBIE’s, the coveted Tony Award (for Excellence in Regional Theater), the Bay Area Media Alliance's Golden Gadfly Award for Lifetime Achievement and numerous Bay Area Theatre Critics' Circle Awards have been added to the list of the company's honors.

The San Francisco Mime Troupe's production, “Posibilidad or Death of the Worker,” will be performed in ONE SHOW ONLY at the Sebastiani Theatre, 476 First Street East, in Sonoma, on Thursday, September 2. Music begins at 7:00 p.m. with the show at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seating tickets are $20 and are available in Sonoma at Readers’ Books and at the Sebastiani Theatre. Visa & MasterCard are accepted at the Theatre. Call 707/996-9756.

About the Sebastiani Theatre Foundation:

The Foundation's mission is to preserve, enhance and maintain the Sebastiani Theatre for community entertainment and education for current and future generations. A group of Sonoma Valley residents launched the Foundation on the 75th anniversary of the Sebastiani Theatre, April 7, 2009.

Box office receipts don't provide enough revenue to cover the costs of maintaining a 75-year-old building. Community support is necessary to keep the theater economically viable, due to high maintenance and operational costs. The first goal of the foundation is to raise the funds needed to complete the installation a modern heating and air conditioning system.

A TRIBUTE TO PATSY CLINE

STARRING

JONI MORRIS & THE AFTER MIDNIGHT BAND

The Sebastiani Theatre presents A TRIBUTE TO PATSY CLINE -- starring JONI MORRIS & THE AFTER MIDNIGHT BAND for one show only on Sunday afternoon, October 3, at 2:00 p.m. There is only one Patsy Cline. But then, there is definitely crooner Joni Morris, who loves Cline's music and is making a career of bringing Patsy's hits back to life today with her engaging double-barreled voce that can belt, sob, and exult, Patsy's hit songs of over 40 years ago. Dressed in costumes ranging from buckskins and tassels to glittering, sequined gowns, Joni Morris invites her audience to, as Patsy Cline used to say, "Just let your hair down and let's see what you look like!"

You don't have to know much about Patsy Cline or her career to enjoy A TRIBUTE TO PATSY CLINE. All you need is a taste for good music and fine entertainment. Whether you're too young to remember Patsy Cline or too shy to admit that you do, Joni Morris' rousing performances of such memory-making songs as "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Crazy," "Walkin' After Midnight," and "Back in Baby's Arms," will make this extraordinary TRIBUTE TO PATSY CLINE an afternoon to remember for a long time to come. Morris transfixes audiences, transporting us back into the Golden Years of the late 50's and early 60's with such hit songs as "Sweet Dreams," "She's Got You," "Tennessee Waltz," and "I Fall to Pieces."
